CAML: the Consortium of Apollo Maine Libraries 🐪
CAML connects libraries from across Maine, so that borrowers can access a wider variety of materials. Items are sent on the statewide library van delivery system.
This means you can now request items from the other CAML libraries, or borrow books when you visit them in person! How It Works 1. Place a reserve on the item you want in the catalog. Library staff are happy to help! (Detailed instructions in this brochure!) Quick version: log in, find the item, click to expand the view, and then click the Reserve button. 2. The library will contact you when your item has arrived. 3. Go pick up your item! You can have your item for 2 weeks, and can renew once as long as no one is waiting for it. Return your item to your home library when you're done. For items available through CAML, you can place your own reserves through the catalog and they will come directly to your library. If you want to pick the item up at another library, ask staff to reserve it for you. For items not owned by a CAML library, you can request them through library staff, just as before. Why a camel? Librarians have long been delivering books to remote areas and across long distances, including by camel! Librarians from Mongolia to Kenya and beyond use camels to reach readers. Why Apollo? Apollo is the library software that our libraries use. Since we all use the same system, we can work together.
